Our fellow RajKumari is from Delhi, she originally hails from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

Her life story began after her father's untimely demise when she was in class 8th. Her brother lived away with his family so she took up responsibility for her household and her mother.

When she got married the turning point in her life came when her brother in law met with a tragic accident and she had to bring him to Delhi for his treatment,

“We went to every hospital in and around Delhi but his condition was just deteriorating”.

She met Sonia Gandhi (then MP from Amethi), who helped her family and gave her brother in law the best treatment available.

She moved to Delhi and worked as a receptionist at the Congress office

She also worked for a local media house.

However, she also began working socially to help women get justice by helping them approach police and file complaints against any form of violence and injustice they suffered. She says “there is no police station left in Delhi where I did not help women in distress, often the police are rude and not empathetic towards the victims that angered me a lot so I started working more vigorously to help”.

She has worked around many areas in Delhi and has helped hundreds of women.

However after her husband’s demise she herself had to suffer a lot where people tried to capture her property forcing her to evacuate her house and wanted her to go back to her village.

But she stood her ground firmly and courageously dealt with them.

She began organising women's groups so that women always come together as a team and fight for each other's rights.

She joined Indira Fellowship as she believes she has the required skills like organising women, dealing with the legal system, creating awareness and problem solving ability, to serve the programme to her fullest potential.

She believes that this fellowship has been important for her to connect to more women and make them empowered. She belong her own experiences of harassment and overcoming hurdles can help her better understand women from all sections who suffer from similar problems. She wants women to be capable enough to fight for their rights without being dependent on anyone for help. “I have helped many women and I am always there to help more but my true goal is to make every woman so brave that she can take care of any problem on her own without any dependence” she says.
