Our fellow Reeta Kumari hails from Bihar but she resides in Delhi and here she's a renowned social and political activist.

Reeta’s parents were both socially very conscious and raised their children to be the same.

Reeta recollects “my mother always told me to stay away from “dulha” (husband) and “chulha” (stove).” She inculcated in her daughter the ideals of social service and humanity and her mother used to educate women at her village and Reeta was influenced by it.

Reeta's own journey began by providing aid and relief to people of her flood-prone village in Bihar.

She also worked with many NGOs and worked with a group of 25 women by providing poor people with cheap foodgrains.

She moved to Delhi and worked with many more social and political organisations for child development, homeless people, senior citizens and women’s rights. She has worked with many camp settlements and held protests and marches to provide water connection, ration cards, and other facilities to people who often remained out of the political system.

Due to her organisations’ efforts female, differently abled recieve reserved seats on cluster buses.

Currently, she has adopted 28 children and 32 senior citizens and provides shelter and care to those who do not have families.

She joined the Indira fellowship due to its name, she has always been inspired by Indira Gandhi and wants to continue her legacy of powerful women in politics.

She wants to use this platform for awareness against the use of female oriented abusive and swear language which violates the dignity of women.

She believes that this fellowship can be a safe space for women to express their pain as many women remain silent against abuse. She believes women can become political and aware of their rights and the law. It will provide women physical, social, financial and emotional support.
