Indira V is our fellow from Udupi district, Karnataka.

She has a Bachelor's in history. She comes from a lower middle class family of 8 children. “Even though our parents had 8 children we were all treated equally and given equal opportunities to study. They always told me to do good things and help others”.

While still being in college she worked as a social worker at BPAT in Bengaluru which works for women and child safety.

Considering the inequality that women face she met many women who were deprived of their rights.

She was appalled by the injustices as well as violence perpetrated against them.

On paper there are many schemes but they don't reach women who actually need them.

She also believes that women are capable in every sphere be it medical, sports, business etc. But are not given their fair share of credit and such spheres are still dominated by men.

Even after marriage she maintained her individuality and continued to make decisions for herself despite ideological differences with her husband she continues to work for the causes dear to her.

She joined Indira Fellowship to empower, educate and to bring women into the sphere of politics.

Through her Shakti clubs she has been able to connect women of 24 villages in 2 blocks she brings women together and help them avail government schemes. She wants to reach the most vulnerable woman in society.

She believes that although politics is a sphere where money and muscle work, women need to step into it to clean it up. She wants to help the poor and the needy as much as she can.
