Nischita Verma is a fellow from Mysore, Karnataka
describes herself as a “socially and politically driven youth”.
Nischita was financially independent despite being a student herself, she was also teaching. She soon completed her degree in Architecture and also completed master's in urban planning.
However, like any field, being an architect is not easy for a woman. There's a tendency of undermining women's hardwork and competence. “Architecture is seen as a man's field; it's difficult to be a woman and grow in the field”.
Apart from being an architect she's also an entrepreneur and an assistant professor.
Her mother’s extensive social service has inspired her to dedicate herself towards social work.
She was also involved in NGOs like AAO working for education of and awareness for blind and differently-abled people.
However, some issues within the existing power structure of the state also influenced her to be proactive in politics. Extreme use of religion and corruption in politics has hindered the development of the state and its driven youth away from politics. She wants to change and encourage as many youth as possible to join politics.
Infact, politicians and their sons use their muscle and money to exploit women. There's been many instances of rape perpetrated by sons of politicians and these cases are never brought to justice.
She joined Indira Fellowship as it's a woman oriented fellowship working at the grassroots level.
Before joining the fellowship she wasnt aware that women are so politically driven and meeting other fellows like them has also been a source of encouragement for her.
However she believes that she has the capability to be a leader and lead youth. But she wants to build herself first by volunteering.
She believes that it was the correct time for such an initiative to take place and bring about positive changes.
